Web browser that does away with Google search services and integration with the tech giant and provides pure browsing without the tracking.
UnGoogled Chromium 128.0 is a free and open source web browser app developed by Eloston for Windows. It's easy-to-use, good at protecting your privacy, portable and reliable.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of UnGoogled Chromium to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this web browsing program.
Browser which removes Google web service dependency
UnGoogled Chromium is the version of the free Chromium web browser which does away with reliance and usage of any Google services. Essentially, the things relying on Google have been completely stripped away.
Without signing in to a Google Account, Chromium does pretty well in terms of security and privacy. However, Chromium still has some dependency on Google web services and binaries. In addition, Google designed Chromium to be easy and intuitive for users, which means they compromise on transparency and control of internal operations.
Features of UnGoogled Chromium
- Block internal requests to Google at runtime.
- Disable functionality specific to Google domains.
- Removes Google Host Detector, Google URL Tracker, Google Cloud Messaging, Google Hotwording.
- Strip binaries from the source code.
- This includes disabling Safe Browsing.
Compatibility and License
UnGoogled Chromium has been released under a BSD license on the Windows operating system from web browsers. This means you can download, install, run and share this program freely without any restrictions. Unlike GPL software, the source code isn't necessarily available.
What version of Windows can UnGoogled Chromium run on?
UnGoogled Chromium can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads.
